Do I believe NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell?

The answer is no. I do not.

I see many hot spots in his speech.

Goodell says, “I don’t know how TMZ or any other website gets their information. We are particularly reliant on law enforcement. That’s the most reliable. It’s the most credible. And we don’t seek to get that information from sources that are not credible.”

I think the words “don’t seek” are so key here.  It says it all.

It’s absurd they would say they don’t know where TMZ gets their information. If they did an ounce of investigation for themselves, they would have immediately gone to the casino — the most direct and credible source of information possible.  They didn’t even have to wait for any investigation.

Video surveillance doesn’t lie.  Ever.

Especially when you see a woman being knocked out cold!

A minute or two later, Goodell says, “That’s why we asked for it on several occasions. Because when we make a decision we want to have all the information that’s available. And obviously that was…when we met with… Ray Rice and his representatives, ah… it was ambiguous about what actually happened.”

It was ambiguous?  It’s nonsense.

Goodell and the NFL could get the public records own their own without relying on the police to do an investigation. These records would have delineated Rice’s arrest, and they could see he was charged with aggravated assault, which is a felony.  They could also see where it happened.   If they had any doubt, the NFL could have easily asked for a copy of the video from the casino where this happened to find out the truth, but according to TMZ they never asked the casino for a copy of the video because I suspect they wanted it to “go away”.

Very well written – Roger Goodell is not believable in this situation. Now news has come out that four (count ’em) witnesses say that Rice told Goodell directly that he (Rice) hit her in the elevator, so all four are saying that Roger knew long before the video was leaked – and the source was Rice himself. One other witness is reported to say that Rice said he “slapped” her, but he still admitting striking her.

I don’t believe Roger Goodell on this at all.

It was so very satisfying to see that you had already posted on this story. I couldn’t wait to see your opinion! FWIW, I agree with it wholeheartedly.

Goodell did a complete 180 after the rest of the footage was released, changing the suspension for Rice from 2 games to “indefinite”. If Goodell knew about the “missing” footage the whole time, he’s done, period. Even if he would’ve confessed immediately after. He will evacuate his role of “the most powerful man in sports” in utter disgrace, and his legacy will be permanently tarnished. I mean, he will be on the same list as Barry Bonds, Pete Rose, and O.J. as one of the worst sports villains ever.

So, yeah, denying any knowledge of the tape is really his only move here.

I believe him…NO, NOT REALLY! You “assume” there’s video, you spoke with Rice who admits striking her, she’s obviously knocked unconscious, but yet you never obtain the video as conclusive proof?

Is there another link as I can’t follow the comments, the only video here I can see is very short 18s and ends with ‘we were never granted that opportunity.’

Excerpt from writer Mike North’s article, “Why I don’t want to see Rice, Peterson play again”

“I don’t believe Goodell has done his due diligence and it has allowed domestic abuse cases to spiral out of control.

The NFL doesn’t need a glad-hander as a commissioner. Goodell has lost the players and many of the fans, and his general incompetence and unawareness is mind-boggling.”

A shame he didn’t handle it swiftly and with some class as another in a position similar to his did in the Sterling affair. Wouldn’t that have spoken volumes?

And as for Mrs. Ray Rice, I am an educated, attractive, woman. I am your peer. Please go see a counselor and know how many young women are watching you. Set the example they need.
