I seem to sense anger and threat, but I am not as good with the still expressions as I am when people are talking. The thought that comes to me about this picture is that he is about to do something to a captive that will hurt or kill them.

    brown says:

    Contempt

Although there’ is no sign that one side of is lip is rised in that classic contempt manner the angle of his chin seems to indicate a prideful attitude combined with the down the’ nose sleepy eyed look that seems to be directed at someone he considers very worthworthless

    Eyes for Lies says:

This expression is arrogant, an “I’m better than you”. And it also shows classic elements of disgust (not contempt). I do not see any pride, or anger here.

If I encountered this person, I would know they think they are “hot stuff” and I would prepare for attitude, ego and arrogant behavior, without question.

    Shubham Mittal says:

Isn’t this one related to your perception?
I can see arrogance and superiority easily but if I try to change my perception I can also see despair (hopelessness + sadness)?

      Brent says:

Interesting comment reflecting the subtlety of expressions. I think the raised chin wouldn’t fit with the majority of despair though.

        Shubham Mittal says:

True, dull chin would have made more sense as despair, knowing that I see despair less than before now.

my boss, the chief engineer of at one time the largest independent oil company in the US, at rest had this expression. as he was always kind and at times understanding I never took it as distain. arrogance, as he was clearly on point when others weren’t, may be close. however as a resting expression I believe ethnicity plays a part.
