The kidnapping and murder of Maria Bögerl has cause quite a stir in her German community outside of Hamburg. Suspicions and rumors are rampant with fingers being pointed toward Thomas Bögerl, banker husband of Maria. The stories grow stronger every day in spite of attempts by police to quell them.

The quieter the police are, the wilder and more insistent the rumors and speculations become. There are rampant stories, with people saying that Thomas is already being held in the jail.

Markus Ott, Heidenheimer police spokesman, has repeatedly denied these rumors. He has maintained that there is no evidence to incriminate Thomas Bögerl. He calls the stories ridiculous.

Bögerl received a call at his bank in which the caller informed him that his wife had been kidnapped. The kidnapper made threats to kill Maria if all of his demands weren’t met. The kidnapper told Thomas to meet him at a certain location, and he gave him the time and amount of ransom that would be required to save his wife’s life.

With no time to spare, Thomas attempted to gather the money from his bank. He rushed it to the designated drop off spot, however, he couldn’t meet the deadline and he was a little late. The money was never picked up.

Maria’s body was found three weeks later; she had died from stab wounds. She had been left in a field near her home covered with some branches. The area she was found in had been extensively searched by police earlier. Many do not understand how it could have been missed. This has caused doubt that the body was left there originally. This has set off even more suspicion.

There are more stories that Maria was killed two days before her reported kidnapping. This story appears to be false, because almost 20 people said they saw her the night before her disappearance. There has been no official time of death established, though, and that would be crucial in this case, because Thomas claims to have phoned his wife on the day of her kidnapping. There are many unanswered questions concerning this tragic death, with no answers being given. This leads to even wilder stories.

Eyes for Lies spotted this story because of the lack of apparent grief visible on the husband’s face. There was a marked difference in the children’s expressions in comparison to those of their father’s. Even though there could not be a determination of his guilt from this video, it raised some questions and so we are all interested in following this story as it develops.
