Hans and Nina Reiser

Several people have asked me my opinion about Hans Reiser in the last few days. Apparently, 20/20 has returned to their normal scheduled time, and I didn’t realize it so I missed the show sadly. Furthermore, I had not seen this story in the news.

A reader pointed me to 20/20 where there is video of Hans Reiser talking about his missing wife. When I watched it, I was immediately troubled by Hans’ demeanor. It didn’t sit right with me.

When Jim Availa says to Reiser that his father and others say that Nina ran away and is alive and well, I don’t like the way Reiser says, “Well, this is very reasonable.”

Read moreHis voice is weak, and he shows fear and doubt in his expressions. If you believe something fervently, I would not expect to see this. Clearly, Reiser doesn’t believe with any certainty what he is saying here. This is a notable red flag for me.

I also saw in the 20/20 transcript text the following:

Asked if he thinks that Nina is alive today, Reiser said, “I think I’m a person who doesn’t know.”

Who talks like this? What is up with this guy? And he is a genius? One plus one isn’t equaling two here. This is another red flag — perhaps thinking-on-his feet behavior?

I also searched and found another video of Reiser here from an ABC news affiliate in California. In this video, Reiser talks about being a good father, a traditional father. When he does, he shows normal emotions and inflections when he talks. Yet when he talks about his wife later (time marker 1:00), Reiser is completely lacking emotions and voice inflection here. He is a blank slate when he says things that should provoke serious emotions for him. Yet strangely there is none. This is not normal.

I also wanted to see if I could find video of Reiser prior to the disappearance of his wife and I lucked out. I found a video of him here on YouTube talking about his Reiser4 Filesystem back in February of 2006. This video shows you what Reiser looks like when he is not under pressure. You see the real man. You see his baseline personality by which to compare his behaviors. In this video, while it is notable that Reiser is softer-spoken, we can see that he does show normal emotions, facial expressions and behaviors.

Why have they now changed?

If anything, I would expect his emotions to be more pronounced if he is wrongly accused of killing his wife — most specifically when he talks about her. I would expect him to say a lot more than he did. Stress evokes strong reactions. Instead, I see the exact opposite. I see a withdrawal and a lack of emotions which is another huge red flag for me.

Do I trust Hans Reiser? No, I do not.

Updates added July 8, 2008:

Hans Reiser was tried and convicted by a jury in the Spring of 2008. On July 7, 2008, Hans Reiser led police to Nina’s body in exchange for a lesser sentence just two days before his sentencing hearing. To read more, click on the labels below to see all of my posts on Hans Reiser.

Stacy and Drew Peterson

Stacy Peterson, 23, has disappeared from her home in Illinois on Sunday and has not been heard from since and even though she is married with two children, her husband, a police officer, doesn’t suspect foul play.

“I believe she’s not missing. She’s where she wants to be,” he said. “I have no reason to suspect foul play.” (source)

“Drew Peterson, 53, a 29-year police veteran, said he believes his wife left voluntarily, even taking clothes with her. He said she’s been suffering from “mood issues” since her sister Tina Ryan death’s last year from colon cancer.” (source)

He also didn’t report his wife missing. It was Stacy’s family who reported her missing at 4:00 a.m. on Monday morning. But the story takes a few more strange, if not outright, eerie twists.

Read more Stacy was Drew’s fourth wife. His third wife, Kathleen Savio, 40, was found dead in her bathtub though her death was ruled an accidental death by drowning. When Drew’s third wife died, they were separated, and in the final stages of divorce. That is certainly hair-raising as was how her body was discovered but I am not going to get into that here. Since Stacy has disappeared, it appears the investigation into the Savio’s death is now being looked at again as it clearly needs to be.

But if you look closely at the facts being reported on this case, there are things being said by Stacy’s family that need to be considered as well. While they are very suspicious of Drew as I believe they should be, they do mention that Stacy was depressed, in the care of psychiatrist, and that furthermore, she had a mother who would disappear for years at a time.

Stacy’s family, however, is adamant that Stacy is not like her mother, and did not show the same tendencies. Her aunt talks about how Stacy wanted out of the marriage, was unhappy and didn’t like how she was being treated.

Naturally, the odds are stacked against Peterson here. To have four wives, one missing and one dead. And the one who is missing isn’t using her cell phone. What are the odds?

At this point, Peterson is not talking to anyone on camera, though he is talking off-camera just sadly the conversations aren’t being reported. News outlets are only reporting brief sentences — unconnected and unrelated.

I don’t like the way Peterson said, “I believe she’s not missing.” When people are dishonest, they often add the qualifier and descriptive text to the end as an after thought. Most people would normally say, “I don’t believe she is missing”. They don’t start out with “I believe she’s….and then tack on “not missing”. This is odd, but this is not enough for me to say much. I want to see more and while I see other snippets of conversations Peterson has had with other reporters, until I can see it all in context in a complete conversation, I won’t draw any conclusions.

If anyone sees any transcripts of conversations with Peterson or him speaking on video, please let me know. Either way, it’s not looking good for Peterson at this point. I am sure most people agree.

Howard (Ron) Beigler Cleared

News reports from October 3, 2007, are now reporting that both ex-husbands of Paige Birgfeld have been cleared by police as persons-of-interest in her missing person case — even though Beigler was the last person to see Birgfeld before she disappeared.

If you aren’t familiar with the story, you can read my first post about it here.

Back in August, when Beigler was still considered a person-of-interest in this case, I wrote that I believed Beigler on ABC’s Family Secrets series when he said “I’m not the least bit worried about them coming after me for this.”

Police have now identified a formal suspect, Ralph Lester Jones. You can read details here. Unfortunately, Mr. Jones has not come forward and spoken publicly. If anyone sees him speak, please feel free to contact me.

Kate and Gerry McCann: New Developments

New developments have come out this week on the Madeleine McCann case, and it is drawing a lot of visitors to my post on Madeleine McCann’s parents. People are very suspicious of the McCanns.

People have been suspicious of the McCanns from day one and only I know that because I see the searches that land people on my blog. I have seen the following searches nearly every day since the story broke nearly 100 days ago: “McCann parents guilty”, “McCann lies”, “McCann parents under suspicion”.

People have speculated and wondered if perhaps the McCanns accidentally killed Madeleine, or if she died accidentally, and the McCanns tried to cover it up.

Read more News reports are now saying that a specially trained sniffer dog came from Britain and found blood invisible to the naked eye on the wall in the room near where Madeleine was last seen alive. They also say someone appeared to try and wipe up the blood specks. DNA is being run on the specks to determine if, in fact, it is Madeleine’s blood.

Local newspapers in the area have also allegedly reported that detectives now believe that Madeleine died in the room and was not abducted.

With that, I wanted to see if I could see the McCanns speak about the newest developments. I wanted to see if their behavior is indicative of lies, one more time — because if they are covering something up, right now the stakes couldn’t be any higher.

If they are lying, the pressure should be at an all time high for the McCanns. With that, I would have the best chance to see deception, if I am going to see it.

I found video of Gerry and Kate McCann talking about the latest developments here.

If the McCanns are found to be involved in the death of their daughter, I will be absolutely dumbfounded.

When I watch the video of Gerry and Kate McCann talk, everything the McCann’s do and say is consistent with honesty. I do not see one red flag in this video or the other video I watched and wrote about earlier.

I see two people who are calm, cool and collected. I see two people who are in pain but who are pushing on, holding on to hope. I do not see any signs of anxiety, fear, stress or worry that they are being looked at closely.

I stand confident that the McCanns had nothing to do with their daughter’s disappearance even in the face of blood found on the wall in the holiday apartment where Madeleine was last seen alive.

Paige Birgfeld & Howard (Ron) Beigler

Paige Birgfeld disappeared on June 28th of this year and has not been seen since. You may have seen the story on ABC’s Family Secrets last night.

Birgfeld was a mother of three, held down odd jobs to support her family, and was twice divorced. Life wasn’t coming easy for Birgfeld who ironically lived in a million dollar home.

When she disappeared, it didn’t take people long to point the finger at her ex-husband, Rob Dixon. Birgfeld had posted her fears online in a Pampered Chef forum that she was afraid of her ex-husband who was moving within a four hour drive of her and the children.

But Birgfeld had domestic disputes with both of her husbands, and before she disappeared the last known person to publicly speak of seeing Birgfeld alive was her first husband, Howard (Ron) Beigler.

Police have said that both husbands are talking with police and are cooperating, but neither has been ruled out as a suspect.

The story then takes another interesting turn. Police discovered that Birgfeld was leading a secret life as an escort by the name of “Carrie”. It appears she told different people different things about what she did. Her first husband, Beigler, seems adamant that police will find that she didn’t sleep with any of her customers (you can see part of his conversations online by following the link above). He believes she only gave topless massages with no physical contact.

I think Beigler is in denial, personally. You don’t live in a million dollar home by simply giving topless massages. Money doesn’t come that easy.

I suspect Birgfeld lied to Beigler because they were rekindling their romance recently, or simply because she just couldn’t confess to what she was doing to an ex-husband, knowing it would get him potentially angry or upset.

But when Beigler said to ABC’s John Quinones, “I’m not the least bit worried about them coming after me for this,” I believed him. I believe Beigler is being honest. I don’t believe he has a worry about being looked at closer.

Police also have another person-of-interest in this case, a person named Lester Ralph Jones who they say knew Birgfeld intimately. They have searched Jones’ home twice.

You have to wonder if Jones was a client of “Carrie” and was perhaps one of the people in her book for that night, or one of the last people she called before she disappeared.

I would still like to see Dixon and Jones speak. If anyone see them talking online — point me to the videos!
