Do you have the pessimist gene?

As someone who understands human behavior, I have always believed that we are born with predetermined disposition. If you are a person who wakes up happy each day, you are lucky.  For people who wake up less than stellar each day trying to change your outlook in life is very hard.  Sure we can make small changes, but I don’t believe those changes can be modified to any large degree.

Look back to people you knew in grade school that you still might know today. Are they pretty much the same person?  I can confidently say your answer will be yes.  You likely won’t find a pessimist who is a blazing optimist, or vice-versa. Some people may have a situation or circumstance which caused them to be repressed, and is now removed and hence they show a different side, but it is not the norm.

While people go through some changes, overall people really do stay the same. And I believe it is hard-wired or genetic.

I consider myself neither a pessimist nor an optimist (though I tend towards optimism), but rather a realist. I tend to focus heavily on concrete facts and try to use that information to drive and motivate myself.

Brain Dead Girl’s Mom Speaks Out

EDITED FOR ACCURACY on April 6, 2014

Nailah Winkfield’s daughter, Jahi McMath, 12, was declared brain dead last December after a tonsillectomy that went wrong. According to state law in California, once a doctor declares a patient brain dead they are no longer required to treat them.

On my Suggestion Page, I see I have 84 votes by people who read the blog to review Nailah–asking if she is being honest. I have to say I am rather perplexed at this. Why do people question Nailah? I don’t understand.

I do believe Nailah is being honest–that her daughter is still responsive — at what level I cannot say. I also believe that Nailah is too close to this situation to be of clear mind and is likely in denial about the situation.

I do not believe that Nailah is being intentionally deceptive.

Oscar Pitorius during Trial

Copyright Sal Falko

CNN, NBC and other news outlets are reporting on how Oscar Pistorius responded in court when a witness talked about what he found with Reeva when he encountered her body.

You can watch a video here and see Oscar sitting on the bench seats holding his head.

When I watch Oscar in this video I try to see if I can spot oblique eyebrows–a sure sign of true sadness.  Ironically, I don’t see them, though at times, its questionable they could be there in some form. We don’t have a clear shot, unfortunately.

But I can say that I see little to no wrinkling in Oscar’s forehead, which is a strong indication he is feeling stressed.  The fact that they are missing is notable for me.  Look at this still shot, (scroll down the page) which is clear as day.

I actually see a vein popping which could be intense anger that he is trying to control, or a feeling of lack of control–frustration.

Oscar does gag at one point in the video above, and that could be because his stomach is in knots.  That would make sense.  His life as he knows it is hanging in the wind–out of his control–for others to decide his fate. I honestly don’t think it is because of what he is hearing, but that’s just my opinion.

I personally think that Oscar Pistorius snapped in a raging fit of emotion and killed his girlfriend in an emotional outburst and then realized what he had done and changed his story.
