Michael Peterson: Innocent or not?

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

For those of you who saw Dateline this past week, you likely saw the story of Michael and Kathleen Peterson. Michael is an author who claims his wife fell down the stairs and subsequently died from her fall.  He was tried and convicted of her murder, but his case has been overturned on some technicalities.

Oddly enough, Michael had a friend, Elizabeth Ratliff, many years ago in Germany who also fell down the stairs. The last person to see her alive?  Michael Peterson.

He is a gregarious and outgoing individual.  He is likely fun to be around. He knows how to socialize and smooze with the best of them, without question, so when you watch Michael Peterson talk, its really surprising he’d be the type to commit murder.

The newest element to the story is that there were microscopic feathers found in Michael Peterson’s wife’s hair upon exhumation that are consistent with an owl attack.  Michael Peterson’s defense attorney now wants us to believe she was attacked by an owl in the back of the head to help explain the many wounds to the back of her head–which by the way are consistent with the same wounds that Elizabeth Ratliff suffered as well.

I do not believe Michael Peterson at all nor do I believe an owl attacked his wife that night. I believe he is involved in the death of two women:  Kathleen Peterson and Elizabeth Ratliff.

Raven Abaroa: One Juror Caused Mistrial

For those of you who follow my blog, you might remember a case I covered a few years back. The case of Janet and Raven Abaroa. Janet Abaroa ended up being murdered in her home, and Raven claimed he was out playing soccer and came home to find his wife slumped over.

I didn’t trust Raven Abaroa, and stated such five months before he was arrested.

Raven’s case finally went to trial, but sadly on Friday, the jury hung. There was one hold out juror in the case.

The state says they will try the case again, thankfully.

Yanira Maldonaldo: Do you believe her?

Do you believe Yanira Maldonaldo?

She has been released because a video showed her and her husband getting on the bus with only two small blankets and bottles of water, which police believe could not hide 12 pounds of drugs.

I find this video fascinating because if you don’t understand the nuances of head shakes and shoulder shrugs, you would likely conclude this woman is being deceptive.

I truly believe she is being honest.

Susan Powell Video Released

(Video no longer available)

It’s sad to see Susan Powell on this video tape documenting her life–obviously knowing that things are truly wrong, but hoping beyond hope that things will turn around.

From day one, when Josh Powell was still alive, I believed he has lying and I think everyone today believes he took to his grave where Susan lays buried.

Take this as a message, if you read this and have nagging feelings about your own life, that you must listen to that inner voice.

I know many women know something is wrong, but they excuse it away and hope beyond hope things will improve. Whenever there is violence in a relationship,  it is irreparably damaged.  Nothing positive will ever come from violence.

My thoughts are with the Powell family. I hope one day they find their daughter’s remains.
